I picked up my phone at the alert of a WeChat message, which was a greeting sent all the way from Russia:
“Hello Mr. Lin, we need your assistance. We have large volumes of agricultural produce including peas, oats, soybeans and wheat to ship to China, and hope you can help us source buyers.”
The sender was our long-time Russian partner Natalia, China Representative of VEDAGENT LLC.
I offered prompt advice: “I will connect you with potential buyers for direct negotiations. Do not ship the goods to China upfront, as it carries massive risks. Arrange shipment only after confirming firm buyers.”
Natalia explained why her team intended to ship goods in advance:
“Our group ships tons of goods from China to Russia daily, yet there is far less cargo heading back to China, leaving numerous empty containers idle. We want to help local Russian farmers sell the fruits of their hard labor.”
She added that her firm could purchase the agricultural goods first before shipping them to China, since their affiliated logistics arm waives freight costs for intra-group shipments.
Her sincere goodwill was deeply touching. Still, as a seasoned trade service provider, we maintained a rational perspective:
Purchasing and shipping goods in advance means bearing all market risks alone. What if no buyers are found after the cargo arrives in China? How to cope with price fluctuations and warehousing expenses?
We firmly recommended a sales-first model: secure buyers prior to shipment, adopting demand-driven procurement instead of blind stocking ahead of sales.
The trust VEDAGENT places in Dacang did not emerge overnight.
Its seeds were sown as early as 2016 and 2017. As the organizer of the Novosibirsk Economic Forum in Russia, VEDAGENT invited Dacang to lead Chinese purchasing delegations to Novosibirsk for food and agricultural trade matchmaking for two consecutive years.
In Siberia’s bitter -30°C cold, the Dacang team brought procurement demands from Chinese enterprises to hold face-to-face talks with Russian suppliers. It was during these trips that VEDAGENT forged an in-depth partnership with us, witnessing Dacang’s professionalism and pragmatic approach to cross-border trade coordination firsthand.
Over the years, Dacang has consistently focused on bridging Sino-Russian food and agricultural trade, earning official recognition from institutions including the Russian Export Center. This track record backed by official credentials built solid confidence from VEDAGENT.
We laid out a clear cooperation roadmap for Natalia and VEDAGENT:
Demand Screening Drawing on Imported Food Network’s database of over 10,000 domestic food distributors accumulated over years, Dacang accurately filters buyers with active demand for Russian peas, oats, soybeans and wheat.
Two-Way Matchmaking We share qualified buyer leads with the Russian side for direct negotiations on pricing, product quality and delivery schedules. Acting as a trusted intermediary, Dacang provides information coordination, translation and trade consulting without intervening in specific transactions.
Procurement Upon Confirmed orders Shipment is scheduled only after buyers confirm purchase intentions. This guarantees stable sales for Russian farmers while drastically cutting capital risks for Natalia and VEDAGENT.
From the first handshake in Siberia in 2016 to the simple line “I trust you” on WeChat today, this bond of trust spanning 7,000 kilometers has endured for a full decade.
Dacang never acts as a direct trader, but rather a trusted bridge and precise navigator: we do not purchase goods ourselves, yet we connect products with ideal buyers; we do not absorb trade risks, yet our expertise mitigates hazards for all partners.
Trust shortens distances in international trade more than anything else.
VEDAGENT boasts robust logistics resources, abundant agricultural supplies and sincere willingness to cooperate, yet it lacked a middleman capable of understanding demands on both sides and delivering precise buyer matching.
This is exactly where Imported Food Network delivers its core value: we do not make decisions for clients, but lay out all viable options clearly; we do not absorb risks on their behalf, yet we help them steer clear of unnecessary pitfalls.
