One day, a Chinese international student from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, visited our company.
He took 50,000 yuan provided by his family when he left for Spain. By working part-time throughout his studies, he covered all living expenses and finished his degree independently.
During his overseas studies, he spotted a promising business opportunity: Spanish olive oil enjoyed a solid reputation among Chinese consumers, yet market recognition was limited to a handful of premium brands with steep price tags. Young people and middle-class households had genuine demand for high-quality olive oil at more reasonable prices — this market gap sparked his idea to launch a startup.
He hit it off with two fellow students, one from Guangzhou and the other from Zhejiang. The three resolved to co-launch an olive oil brand and bring it to the Chinese market.
The trio visited numerous high-quality local olive oil mills across Spain, negotiating with manufacturers, sampling products and comparing quotations.
In this process, they uncovered an unexpected cost secret: Shipping empty glass bottles from China to Spain turned out cheaper than purchasing bottles locally in Spain.
This discovery completely reshaped their business model.
China boasts a mature, large-scale glass bottle industry with a complete supply chain. Glass bottles exported from glass industrial clusters such as Xuzhou to Spain, even with ocean freight included, cost less than local Spanish stock. They realized that the cost advantage of exporting Chinese glass bottles could drastically cut overall packaging expenses for olive oil, making the final retail price far more competitive.
Armed with this insight and preliminary business plan, they reached out to Imported Food Network.
The three students visited dozens of Spanish olive oil producers, conducted strict product screening and price comparison, and finally selected Camarasa Extra Virgin Olive Oil to introduce to China.
They approached Imported Food Network, hoping to leverage the platform’s industry resources and nationwide channel network to connect with reliable Chinese distributors.
After learning about their startup background and unique cost-saving logic, Imported Food Network immediately launched its precision matching service. Drawing on our database of over 10,000 food distributors nationwide, we evaluated the Camarasa EVOO product line and accurately matched the brand with Beijing Meili Yinglun Trading Co., Ltd.
The entire matchmaking process took less than one month from their initial inquiry to successful cooperation confirmation.
Beijing Meili Yinglun is an experienced import food trading firm with mature supermarket and gift distribution networks covering North and East China, plus steady purchasing demand for high-end olive oil categories.
Both sides reached an immediate consensus and moved straight into substantive cooperation.
The core highlight of this project can be summed up in nine words: Export glass bottles out, import olive oil back.
Export out: Chinese glass bottles are shipped to Spain to slash olive oil packaging costs.
Import back: After bottling in Spain, olive oil enters China’s consumer market via Imported Food Network’s distribution channels.
This two-way cargo flow embodies high-efficiency cross-border supply chain management, and represents the business wisdom of combining China’s manufacturing strengths with premium overseas agricultural goods.
The three Chinese international students identified the cost edge of Chinese glass bottles through sharp market insight; Imported Food Network turned their entrepreneurial blueprint into reality via platform-wide industry resources.

Valuable business insight does not always stem from industry veterans — it can also come from the fresh perspective of industry outsiders.
The three students had no prior experience in the food sector, yet they spotted the cost advantage of Chinese glass packaging and built a viable business model based on this information gap.
Imported Food Network’s core role is to turn market insights into tangible results: we connect premium overseas products with reliable Chinese sales channels, translating the cost edge of exported glass bottles into real market competitiveness.
This two-way cross-border flow encapsulates both the wisdom of international trade and the bold courage of young entrepreneurs.
